Stars from around the world, a marathon of live streams, the world's most expensive tournament with a million-dollar buy-in and a record-breaking Main Event with a guarantee like the poker world has never seen before - all this and much more is promised by the WPT organisers during December's WPT World Championship, which will take place at the famous Wynn Casino.
After last year's success, when the $10,400 buy-in Main Event produced 2,960 entries, bringing the prizepool to $29,008,000, the organisers have decided to shock the poker world. This year, they set the guarantee for the Main Event itself at a massive $40 million, the largest live tournament guarantee in poker history. The prize pool will go from each buy-in to $9,800, so 4,082 entries are needed just to fill the guarantee, which has to be taken care of in the 4 opening days.
WPT CEO Adam Pliska said in a press release, "The WPT World Championship at Wynn Las Vegas is poised to reach a new level and we wanted to meet that expectation with a guarantee like no live poker tournament has ever seen."
The entire festival will run from November 29 to December 23 and will guarantee more than $56,000,000 in total . There will also be the aforementioned $1,000,000 WPT Big One for One Drop charity buy-in or the $1,600 buy-in Mystery Bounty tournament with a $2,000,000 guarantee. The cheapest tournaments will have a buy-in of $600, and the big attraction will be the WPT Prime Championship with a buy-in of $1,100 and a guarantee of $5,000,000, which will take place on December 7-12.
