WPT: 45 players remain in the Main Event, the million dollar One Drop has also started

The action in the record-breaking WPT World Championship is going to the finals, and tonight we have a lot to look forward to - the Main Event will welcome the best 45 players at the tables, and in addition, the second day of the huge Big One for One Drop will take place.

Main Event heads into Day 5

The biggest guarantee tournament poker has ever known has just completed another day of play, bringing us one step closer to knowing the winner. Last night saw 132 players return to the Day 4 tables, with Naj Ajez leading the way.

By the end of Day 4, which you could also watch live via livestream, 45 players had successfully battled their way to the end of the day, having already secured a $111,300 prize pool. Mark Mounsey has settled on the overall chiplead, but a number of world-class names - Ben Heath, Artur Martirosyan, Andrew Lichtenberger, Kristen Foxen, Chris Moorman and Alex Foxen - are still dreaming their dreams.

Fifth edition of Big One for One Drop

The highlight of 2023, whether for spectators or high stakes enthusiasts, is definitely the million-dollar Big One for One Drop. With a $1,000,000 prize tag and charitable overtones, the tournament has been played four times in the past, and for a given buy-in, it's always a sure bet that we can look forward to seeing some of the biggest names and best poker.

Following the announcement of this tournament, pre-entries gradually began to pour in, with 13 confirmed a month before the event. Eventually, during Day 1 yesterday, the final number of entrants stopped at 17, which in money terms means a prizepool worth $15,810,000. The top four players from this tournament will take home the prize money, in the following order:

  1. 7,114,500$
  2. 4,663,950$
  3. 2,806,750$
  4. 1,224,800$

Talal Shakerchi was the first to be eliminated from this tournament, followed shortly after by David Einhorn. The third eliminated at the very end of the day was the man who contributed the most to the media coverage of this event, and that was none other than Phil Ivey himself. He missed all of his time pots on the river with AT2K7 before opting to call Dan Smith's all-in with AJ. But in the showdown, Smith turned over QJ and thanks to that play he also moved up to the overall chiplead.

The surviving 14 players promise to have great poker tonight as well, with Jason Koon, Stephen Chidwick, Chris Brewer, Fedor Holz, Isaac Haxton and Czech representative Martin Kabrhel all in action. The plan for tonight's Day 2 will be to round out the field for the final table, which will be live streamed on Wednesday the 20th. The line-up for the last two tables is as follows:
