WSOPE: Despotovic's Unstoppable Run Earns Him His First Bracelet and €182,500

Article cover

The sixth bracelet event of this year's WSOPE was the €2,000 PLO event, which saw 406 entries. Among them, the top 61 players advanced to yesterday's final, competing for the coveted bracelet and a prize of €182,500.

The rapid pace of the four-card showdown quickly narrowed the field to the last two tables, just as the live stream began. By then, Serbian player Dusan Despotovic had firmly held the chipleader position, eventually making his way to the final table.

The elimination streak kicked off when Slovak player Marek Uharcek, holding a set of kings, clashed with Despotovic’s set of aces. Despotovic then hit a full house on the river against Tamazi Skhirtladze's straight and subsequently ousted Eray Teker and Antoine Delorme after the break.

Heading into the final showdown for the title, Despotovic started with a 4:1 lead over Quirin Zech and continued to widen the gap. The quick decision in a cooler spot came on a board of J h J c 2 s A d 9 d, where Zech had a full house with Q s J d 9 c 7 c, but Despotovic turned over a bigger full house with A h A c 8 h 6 s, finishing the tournament.

The Serbian player sealed his remarkable run by eliminating all seven competitors on the official final table himself. “It’s a fantastic feeling, winning a bracelet was always my dream,” he said after his victory. “And of course, the money is nice too. I have two young kids at home, so I’ll have something to invest in,” he added.
