Adrián Mateos Joins Poker’s Elite
Last night saw the conclusion of the special hybrid event, the $3,200 NLH High Roller. This unique tournament kicked off online before shifting to a live final table at the Horseshoe Casino. The lineup was packed with world-class talent, headlined by Alex Kulev and Adrián Mateos.
In the end, it was Kulev and Mateos who squared off in a thrilling heads-up showdown for the title. Despite entering with a commanding 4:1 lead in chips, Kulev couldn't close the deal, as Mateos put on yet another display of world-class skill. Mateos completed the comeback, claiming both the top prize of $253,080 and, most importantly his fifth WSOP bracelet. The Spanish star now boasts a perfect 5-for-5 record in WSOP heads-up situations - a truly remarkable feat.
With this latest victory, Mateos becomes just the fifth player in history to win five WSOP bracelets before turning 30, joining an exclusive club that includes legends like Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Allen Cunningham, and Daniel Alaei. He also surpassed the $54 million mark in total live earnings on Hendon Mob, further solidifying his grip on eighth place on poker’s all-time money list.
