Taipei Hosts Poker Megatournament: Main Event TMT Attracts 8,066 Entries

Article cover

The Taiwan Millions Tournament, or TMT, is a local festival brand that has been making its name by creating massive fields and a “stadium-like” atmosphere in the tournament hall with accessible buy-ins. Its roots go back to around 2015, and in the last two seasons, it's been breaking records in a big way: TMT 16 in July 2024 saw the Main Event skyrocket to 6,953 entries, and a year later at TMT 18, there was another explosion with 8,478 entries.

This year, TMT 19 once again leveraged the winning formula— a Main Event with a 9,000 TWD buy-in and a 30,000,000 TWD guarantee (approximately $1,000,000). The festival's extensive schedule spanned two venues in the city (Asia Poker Arena and Red Space).

Though this year's record wasn't broken, we still witnessed an unbelievable tournament – eight starting flights produced a total of 8,066 entries, from which the top 640 players advanced to Day 2. These players faced a challenging and long Day 2, where only 36 kept their dreams of the title alive. The final day brought another poker marathon, culminating in a six-hour final table, which was also broadcast live on stream.

The champion's story in this tournament followed the line poker fans love: Zee Hyo Jung from Korea didn't enter the final table as the leader. On the contrary – with 11bb, he had the second smallest stack in play. On the other side of the spectrum was the 93-blind chipleader Pao Hsuan Hsu, and these two eventually faced off in the concluding heads-up.

The battle of titans started with nearly even 60-blind stacks, yet five minutes later, it was all over. Pre-flop, Jung decided to go all-in with K c J s, which Hsu called with pocket J h J d. Although Hsu had almost 70% to win at that moment, a K s landed on the board, shifting the balance and securing the victory for the Korean contender.

Runner-up Pao Hsuan Hsu earned approximately 140,000 dollars for his outstanding performance. Champion Zee Hyo Jung not only took home a unique trophy but also over 215,000 dollars and enduring fame!
