Canada is known for its incredibly high Bad Beat Jackpots. The biggest Bad Beat Jackpot we've ever seen went down in Playground Casino in Quebec in 2023, when the jackpot was worth CAD$2.6 million (US$1.87 million), which was split between players after one player hit a Quads ten against a straight flush.
The second largest Bad Beat Jackpot
Just two days ago in Quebec, but this time at Casino du Lac-Leamy, the second biggest Bad Beat Jackpot in history was hit, worth CAD 2.5 million ($1.81 million).
The rules for hitting the jackpot at this casino are simple. The jackpot is hit when Quads tens or higher loses, with players having to use both their cards. In this case, Quads tens lost against a straight flush as well.
40% of the jackpot was awarded to the player with the losing hand, 20% was awarded to the winner of the hand, 20% was split evenly between the players at the table, and the remaining 20% was split evenly between everyone else who was sitting at the poker tables at the time the Bad Beat Jackpot occurred. There were a total of 46 players in the room at the time. The Quads player received CAD$1,005,421 ($726,000) and the winner of the hand received CAD$502,711 ($363,000). Six players at the same table each won CAD 84,000 ($60,000) and the other 38 players in the room took home CAD 13,000 ($9,400).
Other highlights
However, there was one stack on the table where the jackpot fell that was covered, and that player decided not to play poker for a while. He may have regretted this later, however, as he was not at the table during the jackpot and thus was not officially in the game at all. However, the players at the table decided to split with him, and that's how he won approximately $17,000.
Another interesting fact is a player with the nickname "Zi0nized" who posted all the information and photos surrounding this BBJ on Reddit sat down at one of the nearby poker tables and after one minute of play, he was already enjoying the Bad Beat Jackpot. He also made $9,400.
