Record-Breaking Goliath Recognized its Champion, Paul Worsley Takes Home £316,640

As every year, Coventry was in the spotlight at the end of July when poker enthusiasts from across Europe gathered with hopes of making history and being part of the largest poker tournament held outside Las Vegas. The Goliath consistently breaks its own records for the number of entries, and this year was no exception, drawing a total of 12,961 entries!

With a £200 buy-in, this created a prizepool of £2 million, which began to be divided among 1,059 players. Of these, 40 top players advanced to the final day, competing in a televised finale for life-changing prizes. You can watch the live stream replay here:


Worsley's Stellar Run
 

Among the 40 finalists, Liverpool's Paul Worsley started the final day with the fourth-largest stack. He smoothly navigated the tournament to reach the final table. A key 3-way clash involving A d Q d against Q s J s and 9 d ​​​​​​​9 c ​​​​​​​ in a massive pot led him to a final heads-up against Thomas Clack with a commanding 10:1 chip lead!

Worsley left nothing to chance, defeating Clack with a decisive blow. Since no discussion of a deal arose, he walked away with the full £316,640. In a post-victory interview, Worsley admitted he registered for the tournament as his “last shot,” contemplating retirement from his poker career. At the start, his bankroll was down to the last £600, which he now has pleasantly bolstered. Given the win, the beaming victor announced he would reconsider retirement and definitely plans to return for next year's event!

Just as the excitement of the successful 2025 event settled, organizers didn't miss a beat, announcing the dates for the 2026 Goliath. It is set to take place from July 23 to August 2, and it's clear they aim to surpass the 13,000 entries mark!
