PLO Grand Slam: András 'Probirs' Németh Triumphs at €10k PLO Championship

Article cover

The Diamond Poker Series is a prestigious traveling brand focused exclusively on PLO events, known for its deep structures and high buy-ins. The Malta PLO, with total guarantees exceeding €4.5 million, ranks as one of Europe's largest Omaha celebrations. The festival's flagship events include the three-day €10,300 Championship with a €2,000,000 guarantee and the two-day €5,200 'The 5k Million' with a €1,000,000 guarantee.

The opening tournament was the aforementioned €10,300 Championship, which ultimately fell just short of its guarantee with 182 entries. After two flights and a decisive Day 2, 13 players advanced to the final day, led by Hungarian pro András 'Probirs' Németh. The final table promised an exciting showdown with notable names like Hossein Ensan, Ole Schemion, and Stanislav Zegal.

Dominant Final Performance

Németh entered the final day as the chipleader and set the pace with the first elimination. Though Joentausta temporarily took the lead before the final table, 'Probirs' quickly regained control. He eliminated players including Stanislav Zegal (6th – €100,600) and Ole Schemion (4th – €161,700), entering the final three with about 60% of the chips.

After a brief exchange, he ousted Sweden's Andreas Thelin (3rd – €197,400), leading to a deal with 'Sonic' and a quick heads-up for an extra €65,000. Lasting just half an hour, Németh set the rhythm and sealed the victory with back-to-back full houses. The title earned him the trophy and a prize of €407,854.

This was 'Probirs'' debut at the Diamond Poker Series, marking an immediate triumph. He joins the ranks of PLO Grand Slam Championship winners like Tom-Aksel Bedell and Imad Derwiche.
