PGT Kickoff: 2026 Season Begins, LuckyChewy Wins Opening Tournament

Article cover

The new season of the PokerGO Tour kicked off yesterday with the PGT Kickoff series, offering players a total of six events. The first four will have a $5,300 buy-in, while the final two will raise the stakes to $10,500. Organizers are also awarding double points, making it a fantastic opportunity to start the new year on a high note.

Players responded to this offer with great enthusiasm, as the first event recorded a remarkable 135 entries. This generated a prizepool of $675,000, the second-highest in the history of PGT tournaments with a $5k buy-in. Interestingly, this surge occurred despite looming uncertainties regarding new tax changes in the US that could significantly impact the high roller series.

“LuckyChewy” Defends His Title

Andrew “LuckyChewy” Lichtenberger did exactly what was expected of him: he followed up last year's triumph in the same opening event and once again claimed the trophy. Navigating through Day 2, he withstood the pressure and, after winning heads-up against Jeremy Eyer, secured his eighth career title on PGT, raking in $162,000 and taking a leading position on the leaderboard.

Final Table Results:

Position Player Country Amount
1 Andrew Lichtenberger USA $162,000
2 Jeremy Eyer USA $97,875
3 Shannon Shorr USA $70,875
4 Cary Katz USA $54,000
