Kings of Tallinn: German Martin Zobel Triumphs in the €555 NLH Championship

Article cover

The final day of the successful €555 NLH Championship event felt like a chess match from the start, featuring players from Baltic and Nordic schools—patience, pressure at the right moment, and minimal unnecessary risks. Yet, paradoxically, it was the German Martin Zobel who bested the formidable Nordic competition.

Zobel entered the final table in 4th place with a 25-blind stack. The entire final day, including the final table of this tournament, was available via live stream, which you can find here:

In the closing stages, Zobel faced his toughest challenge: a heads-up against Finland's Onni Huttunen, who held his ground with disciplined play, no panic, and readiness to seize opportunities.

The decision swung in Zobel's favor during a preflop confrontation, holding a pair of 7 c 7 d against Huttunen's A d 3 d. The pocket pair stood firm, and after the final board, Zobel celebrated his title and a prize of €53,520. Runner-up Huttunen took home €35,250 for second place.
