The highlight of 2025 at the Grand Casino in Liechtenstein was the GCPS Million tournament, which promised players a guaranteed prize pool of a million francs. Following the initial flights, 124 players advanced to day 2, all assured a min-cash of 2,050 CHF. After a long day, the field narrowed to the final 26, who returned on Monday for the grand finale.
A Marathon Without a Clear Ending
Heading into the final phase, the player 'Itsamyth' led the way, accompanied by names like Andreas Hofer, Nexo F. Xela, and Jean Kabbaj. It seemed certain that Itsamyth would be the star of Monday’s livestream, which delivered over 15 hours of action, and this prediction hit the mark.
Shortly after the start of the final day, it was clear the night would be long. Players had plenty of room to maneuver, chips moved slowly across the table, and eliminations came gradually. Only after seven hours did the line-up for the 9-player final table take shape, which was still set for another intense battle.
Besides the aforementioned 'Itsamyth', who continued to dictate the pace of the game, Nexo F. Xela also made his presence felt. A finalist from the previous GCPS Championship, he once again achieved a podium finish, although a higher placement eluded him once more. In a crucial pot, he went all-in with A8s on a flop paired with an eight, only to run into Itsamyth’s pair of kings. The board supported the stronger hand, awarding Nexo F. Xela 69,160 CHF for yet another third-place finish in a GCPS event.
Heads-up and an Extra Day
Itsamyth entered the heads-up round as the clear chipleader, but the final day was far from over. Despite his lead, he couldn't close the deal as Mammuth gradually took the upper hand through a series of larger pots, shifting the balance in his favor.
After more than 15 hours of play, the players and organizers agreed to resolve the over-60,000 CHF pay jump battle in an extra day. Mammuth carried a lead of over 2:1 into this day, giving him a significant edge toward claiming the GCPS Million title. Since the series' leaderboard prohibited deals, a fierce finale was anticipated.
No major surprises occurred in the extension. From the outset, Mammuth made it clear he had no intention of relinquishing the heads-up. Itsamyth found several double-ups, but none were enough to reclaim the chip lead. Ultimately, the Swiss player Mammuth lifted the trophy and took home a check for 161,388 CHF after an extremely long journey. Runner-up Itsamyth from Greece walked away with 98,030 CHF and an unforgettable experience.
