The European Poker Tour started in 2004 as John Duthie’s vision to offer Europe its own answer to the WPT and WSOP. The series gradually grew in popularity, significantly boosted in 2011 by a partnership with PokerStars, which brought an even richer program.
EPT first came to Prague in 2007 and quickly became a favorite. The Czech capital, thanks to its timing just before Christmas, beautiful historic center, and central location, swiftly became a fixture on the calendar. Among the champions of the Prague Main Event are names like Arnaud Mattern, Jan Škampa, Hossein Ensan, and Mikalai Pobal. Particularly unforgettable was the home victory of Jan Škampa in 2009, as well as the record-breaking entries of recent years, like the 2023 Main Event with 1,285 entries, awarding Irish winner Padraig O’Neill a first prize of €1,030,000.

The non-poker program will also be impressive, with organizers preparing a traditional “activities guide” – themed parties, city tours, exceptional dining experiences, and unique activities like ice skating or boat trips on the Vltava River. Coupled with the legendary Christmas markets at the Old Town Square and the charm of the old city, EPT Prague offers players an experience that goes far beyond the game itself.

EPT Prague 2025 promises all we could wish from a major poker festival: a historically proven destination, a packed schedule for all bankroll levels, top-notch players from around the globe, and an atmosphere you simply won't find anywhere else. Starting today, another chapter in the history of the European Poker Tour will be written in Prague, and no serious tournament player will want to miss it.
