Nielsen Hits Four Kings and Leads Main Event after Day 3
With a buy-in of €5,300, the Main Event now has just 103 players left after Day 3, all dreaming of the EPT Barcelona 2025 championship title and the top prize of €1,436,000 from a massive €9,918,250 prize pool.
Martin Nielsen from the Faroe Islands took the lead, ending the day with a stack of 1,683,000 (140 BB). The pivotal moment came before the final break with a huge hand against Matas Cimbolas. Nielsen, holding K c K d, was in a commanding position against Cimbolas's 6 d 6 s. Cimbolas misread the strength and continued to call on the flop, turn, and river. The board 7 d K h 3 s K s 2 c delivered quads for Nielsen, knocking out Cimbolas and securing Nielsen's top spot till the day's end.
The day kicked off with anticipation, as players waited for the last ten eliminations before making it to the money. The bubble burst quickly, with just half an hour of play and two hands of hand-for-hand before three players (Merijn van Rooij, Alejandro Ganivet, and Robert Kaggerud) were eliminated at once. They split two min-cashes, each taking home €5,700.
It's already confirmed that EPT Barcelona will crown a new Main Event champion this year, as the last former winners, Dominik Panka, Steve O'Dwyer, and Simon Brandstrom, were all eliminated during the day.
Day 4 kicks off on Wednesday, August 28th, at 12:00 PM. All remaining players are guaranteed a minimum of €17,250, with the top eleven set to secure at least six-figure payouts. Follow the action live on the PokerStars YouTube channel.
