Main Event on the Bubble, Amsellem Leads After Day 2

Registration for the €5,300 EPT Barcelona Main Event has officially closed, and the numbers speak for themselves – 2,045 entries created a prize pool of €9,918,250. This marks the third-largest Main Event in EPT history, with a €1,436,000 reward for the champion.

For comparison, last year's Main Event had 1,975 entries. It didn't surpass the festival's absolute record of 2,294 entries in 2022, but it remains a testament to Barcelona's status as the largest and most popular stop on the European Poker Tour.

Only 313 players remain in the game, with just ten eliminations needed before reaching the money. The min-cash this year is €8,550, the final table guarantees at least €132,800, and the winner will walk away with €1,436,000.

Frenchman Jacob Amsellem leads after Day 2, building a stack of 802,000 chips. The top ten includes known names like WSOP bracelet holders Cesar Garcia and Jason Wheeler.

Among those advancing are Anton Kraous (500,000), who dominated Day 1B, and Day 1A leader Daiki Shingae (168,000). The competition includes several former EPT champions – Dominik Panka (400,000), Dimitar Danchev (206,000), Simon Brandstrom (204,000), Steve O’Dwyer (188,000), and Sebastian Malec (96,000).

On the other hand, defending champion Stephen Song was eliminated at the end of Day 2. Other notable eliminations include Martin Kabrhel, Super High Roller winner Leon Sturm, and 2023 champion Simon Wiciak.

Super High Roller Second Chance

In parallel with the Main Event, the festival's other major tournament, the €50,000 Super High Roller Second Chance, is underway. So far, 22 entries have been recorded on the opening day, with the prize pool already reaching €1,067,220. Registration remains open until the start of Day 2, so more players and a larger total pot are expected.

Leading the 13 remaining players is Norway's Kayhan Mokri with a stack of 845,000. Mokri is a multiple EPT winner and has dominated three high buy-in tournaments in Barcelona over the past two years.

Close on his heels are Sweden's Mikael Thuritz (832,000) and Dutchman Teun Mulder (797,000). Among the 13 players who survived the first day is €100K Super High Roller champion Leon Sturm, although he's at the bottom of the pack.
