Article cover

The European stops of the new Pokerstars Open series were announced in late 2024, replacing the various local series. After the first stop in Campione, the organisers also introduced us to the first US stop, Pokerstars Open Philadelphia.

What did Pokerstars Open Philadelphia bring?

For the European editions of this series, the Main Event has a €1,000,000 guarantee at a buy-in of €1,100, while for the US stop, the Main Event offered a guarantee of just $500,000 at a buy-in of $1,100.

The entire series took place on the dates of April 21-27 at the Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia. The Main Event brought in 1,154 entries, bringing the prizepool to $1,107,840. A reward of $184,800 awaited the winner.

146 players made it to the final day and the winner was announced after 18 long hours of play. Adam Agaev, who had a stack as big as 121 blinds, sat at the 10-seat final table as the chipleader. The most experienced player was Frank Funaro, who had already cashed for over $3.8 million and also has two WSOP bracelets.

Frank Funaro also battled his way into the deal, which went down to the last three players. After the deal, there was no more play and the player with the most chips was automatically the winner. That was Edward Leonard, who took home the trophy and $147,806. Second place went to Guan Huang ($126,507) and third place went to Frank Funaro, who secured $125,708.
