WSOP Tournament of Champions to be held outside Las Vegas for the first time

Life is change. That's what the WSOP organizers seem to have figured out, and so this year for the first time they're bringing us the WSOP Tournament of Champions outside of the main festival and even outside of Las Vegas - this time the venue will be Los Angeles.

The WSOP is slowly approaching and more and more information is coming in. The latest news concerns the WSOP Tournament of Champions event, which is open only to WSOPC ring or WSOP bracelet holders. It doesn't matter if a player won a piece of jewelry in a live or online tournament, and yes, WSOP Europe bracelet holders can participate as well.

However, the tournament is not open to all owners, but only to those who have won this valuable jewel in the 2023-2024 season, specifically until May 2024. All champions will thus have a free entry into this tournament, which has a prizepool of $1,000,000. The winner of this tournament will also take home the WSOP Champions Bracelet in addition to the prize money.

Venue and date change

This tournament has been held every year and has traditionally taken place at the end of the festival. The exception was last year, when this tournament was the opening event of the entire WSOP Festival, and this year will be completely different. The organizers have decided to move the WSOP Tournament of Champions to Los Angeles, at The Commerce Casino & Hotel, and it will take place before the actual start of the WSOP Festival in Las Vegas. The new date for this event is May 22-24, 2024, the week before the start of the WSOP.

"For years, Commerce Casino has been the home of poker in Los Angeles and one of the premier card rooms in the world. We look forward to kicking off our new strategic relationship with a special WSOP Circuit Finals and Tournament of Champions bracelet tournament. We also look forward to qualifying more Los Angeles players than ever before for the WSOP Main Event," said Ty Stewart, WSOP Senior Vice President and Executive Director.

As Ty Stewart hinted, the WSOP Tournament of Champions will take place at the conclusion of the WSOP Circuit Festival, which will run from May 10-24 at this casino.

How many players have qualified?

According to current information, more than 600 players have already qualified for this freeroll, but that number is only going to grow. The WSOPC at Commerce Casino will have 18 ring tournaments, and all the winners are eligible to join the Tournament of Champions. The last two days of the WSOPC schedule will feature satellites that will give players the chance to win an $11,000 WSOP Main Event package, which includes entry into the Main Event plus $1,000 to cover travel expenses.

For comparison, last year 960 players qualified for the WSOP Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas and 741 of them came to play the tournament. The winner of the Tournament of Champions last year in Las Vegas during WSOP 2023 was Ronnie Day, for which he took home $200,000. The year before that, the winner was Benjamin Kaupp, who took home $250,000.
