Exciting Progression and the Lucky Hand of the Winner
The final day was marked by constant twists and turns. The chiplead swapped between several players, including Raul, Turlough McHugh, and Malcolm Franchi. Sandro Carucci, who started the final table as one of the short stacks, faced multiple elimination threats on his way to the title.
A pivotal moment occurred during three-handed play. Carucci faced an all-in from McHugh while holding 7 s 4 s with a flush on the board J c J h 2 s K s T s. After a few minutes, he decided to call and revealed McHugh's unsuccessful bluff with A s 7 h. This hand propelled Carucci to the top and significantly shifted the finale's dynamics.
McHugh only lasted a few more hands, leading to a heads-up clash between Carucci and Malcolm Franchi. The final encounter lasted just two hands. In the decisive hand, Carucci held A c 6 h, while Franchi had A s 9 d. The Frenchman went all-in pre-flop, and the Swiss decided to call. The flop A h J d 6 c gave Sandro two pairs, and after a safe turn 7 h and river 4 c, it was all over. Carucci became the WSOP Circuit Marrakech champion, taking home 3,000,000 MAD (approximately €279,000).
The winner admitted post-tournament, with a smile, that a stroke of luck was essential, while emphasizing that this victory marked the culmination of several years of effort since transitioning to nearly professional poker play.
