Alex Foxen Crowned PGT Player of the Year 2025, Wang Leads PGT Championship Final

Alex Foxen is the 2025 Player of the Year

Even before the start of the PGT Championship, all eyes were on the standout individual star of the season. Alex Foxen was officially crowned as the PGT Player of the Year 2025, having topped the overall rankings with 3,134 PGT points following the conclusion of the PGT Last Chance series.

Foxen had an extraordinary season, with 27 ITM finishes in PGT tournaments, total earnings of $6,277,148, and five titles, pushing his career total to 12 PGT victories. He became the first player to surpass both 100 wins in PGT events and 10,000 PGT points.

His season was built on strong performances throughout the year, from the PokerGO Cup through the PGT PLO Series and US Poker Open, to the WSOP, where he secured eight ITM finishes, including 2nd place in the $250,000 Super High Roller. However, the decisive moment came at the very end of the season when Foxen triumphed in the final PGT Last Chance event (Event #6: $10,100 NLH Turbo).

This victory not only secured him his fifth title of the season but also definitively ended the challenge from Sam Soverel and Chino Rheem in a dramatic battle for the overall lead. As a bonus, Foxen took home $50,000 and the right to enter the PGT $1,000,000 Championship with the largest starting stack.

Final Seven Start on the Bubble

The prestigious PGT $1,000,000 Championship has completed its first day of play. A total of 54 players entered the tournament – the elite top forty from the PGT rankings, supplemented by 14 Dream Seat ticket holders. After Day 1, the final table is set with the last 7 players vying for the top prize of $500,000.

Currently in the chipleader position is Michael Wang, who has secured a favorable spot going into the finale. However, seasoned veterans like Andrew Lichtenberger, Aaron Kupin, and poker legend Daniel Negreanu, who remains in the running for one of the season's most significant titles, are all bringing strong competition.

A key moment of the day was the clash between Michael Wang and Chino Rheem, where Wang held through a major flip with A-K against pocket eights, propelling himself to the top of the leaderboard.

The tournament has already claimed many notable names, including Jason Koon, Nick Schulman, and Michael Mizrachi. Even last year's PGT Player of the Year and title defender, Jeremy Ausmus, exited early. The freshly crowned PGT Player of the Year, Alex Foxen, came close to the final table, finishing in 13th place.

The final seven will reconvene today at 1:00 PM local time at PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas. Only 6 players will reach the money, setting up an intriguing start to the final day. Who will ultimately claim the coveted title? You can watch the action live via the YouTube livestream:
