The player hit the Royal Flush twice in a row, creating an incredible situation

Have you ever hit the Royal Flush? Just a few days ago, one cash game player managed to hit this unusual combination two hands in a row. The chances of that happening are so slim that you have a better chance of being struck by lightning or eaten by a shark.

A few days ago, the world's largest online gaming site boasted on its Twitter feed about a literally unbelievable situation that happened to a cash game player. It all happened on a $0.10/$0.25 NLH cash game when an unknown player hit a Royal Flush right on the flop. It's a beautiful achievement, but it's certainly not something incredible.

What happened next, however, can already be considered incredible. The very next hand, the same player hit another Royal Flush, but this time "only" on the turn. Do you know what the probability of this happening is?

More likely, you'll get eaten by a shark

The probability of hitting a Royal Flush is 1 in 650,000, and the probability of hitting this hand two hands in a row is up to 1 in 422,000,000,000. Which is pretty incredible.

By comparison, you have a better chance of winning the lottery, dying in a plane crash, being eaten by a shark, or being struck by lightning. And even if you aspire to win an Oscar, that's a far greater chance too.

Chance of being struck by lightning in life - 1 in 15,300
Chance of dying in a plane crash - 1 in 11,000,000
Chance of winning the US Powerball lottery - 1 in 292.201,338
Odds of winning an Oscar - 1 : 11,500
Odds of dying in a shark attack - 1 : 3,748,067
Odds of dying in a roller coaster accident - 1 : 750,000,000

You can only hit a Royal Flush once in a lifetime, and hitting it two hands in a row is downright impossible, and yet it has happened. By the way, do you know how many ways there are to shuffle a 52 card deck? That number has 67 zeros and is greater than the number of atoms in the universe.
