Sunday Million celebrates 18th anniversary, brings $8 million guarantee in April

Write down the date, don't make other plans and get a good night's sleep beforehand. The legendary Sunday Million is celebrating its 18th anniversary, and once again it will delight players with an increased $8 million guarantee!

In the world of online poker, there's probably no one who doesn't know the term Sunday Million. Winning this event is every MTT player's dream, but defending the title is almost impossible. Over the years, only 19 players have managed to win the Sunday Million twice, and only one single player in history (Russia's Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov) can boast three wins. What few people know is that this legendary tournament is celebrating its 18th anniversary this year, and as is customary, the celebrations will now be enriched by a special edition of the tournament.

A guaranteed million for the winner

Make a big mark on your calendars this year for April 7, when the $215 Sunday Million Anniversary kicks off with a total guarantee of $8 million. As in years past, it will be a three-day tournament that will have late registration open until the start of Day 2. The organizers also add in the guarantee that the first place finisher in this tournament will be guaranteed a minimum of $1 million, which is truly unprecedented for a $215 buy-in.

The annual Sunday Million is a regular diamond in the PokerStars tournament line-up. Last year, this tournament took place on March 28, when a total of 25,722 players took care of 39,500 entries. The champion was Brazilian player Ricardo "RFN1986" Nagamoto, who took home an even $1 million.

"It's a very symbolic event that offers tremendous value to everyone really. There are a lot of stars in the field, and to win this annual event is an indescribable feeling. This win has completely changed my life, given me stability and financial security. Despite everything, I'm not quitting and will continue to play poker as it's my lifelong passion," Nagamoto said.

As far as records go, the biggest Sunday Million in history was the 14th annual tournament in 2019, when the entries count reached 93,016. Alex "AAAArthur" Brito ($1,192,802) took home the most of the $18,303,200 prizepool back then. However, the biggest prize among the winners a year later went to Vanessa "Niffler" Kade, who took home $1,514,920 for defeating 69,876 entries.
