Santhosh Suvarna: Poker is still in its infancy in India, winning a bracelet means a lot to me
The currently 43-year-old Indian businessman Santhosh Suvarna has been involved in gambling for many years, where he has been the owner of the Rockets Poker Room. But since last year, he jumped straight into the deepest waters, when he became a regular participant in the Triton series, where he already recorded several interesting results - in May of this year in Cyprus, he won the first trident trophy and with it $700,000, not even half a year later he already cashed lifetime $1,772,000 in Triton Monte Carlo for 3rd place in the Main Event.
After his successes, Santhosh began to tour the most interesting poker series in the world, but these days he also visited Rozvadov. Here he excelled in the €50k Diamond High Roller, where he dealt with the world's best and added €650,000 to his account and a championshipbracelet to go with it. We interviewed the emotional winner immediately after his win and here is the result:
Firstly, congratulations on your win! Great achievement, your first bracelet. How do you feel now immediately after the final?
„Thank you very much for your wishes. It's a great feeling to be a bracelet winner from country like India where poker is very young and I just can't express how happy I am in the simple words. It's really really a great feeling.“
Does the bracelet have a different value to you than your previous win at Triton? If so, how?
„Triton is very special but this a bracelet event and this will remain very close to my heart . And I am looking forward to win few more.“
Have you prepared in any special way for today's final?
„Not really but I have been lately playing with top pros and learning from them. I am trying not to make many mistakes and I can definitely say that I haven't made mistakes or wrong moves Here today . The results are proof .“
You seem like a player who really enjoys the game. How did you enjoy playing here? How do you like Rozvadov in general?
„It becomes difficult win or make correct decisions if you play under pressure , It's important to enjoy your Game at the same time be focused. This is my third trip to Rozvadov and I see the tremendous poker growth happening here , I must appreciate King's Resort for growing poker in this part of world and conducting such a big tournament very smoothly and professionally. Very well done King's Resort.“
How did you enjoy the heads up?
„Ren is really warm and fun loving guy. We really like each other's success and it was just fun playing heads up ,there was hardly any pressure on me during the heads up , the luck and poker gods were on my side on FT.“
You're known to be a highroller amateur player. However, you have recently achieved great success. Are you not considering a career as a poker pro?
„Yes I am , still long way to go . I like playing HR games for sure.“
What are your next poker plans ? Where can we see you next?
„Plenty lineup, WSOP paradise in Bahamas is my next immediate stop , after that some good high stakes cash games in USA and On to Triton in March. That's all for now.“
