Matej Maceják is the Spadepoker Tour champion, taking home €47,000 and a ticket to the WSOPE!

It could have been a one man show, but one player was against it. A rangy Turkish player with the nickname O.G.Pageka went through the whole tournament like a knife through butter until the the final heads-up, where the Slovak player Matej Maceják scored the biggest hit of his career so far!

The fifth edition of the international Spadepoker tour is officially over, so it's time to recap the last day of play. In it, the plan was to reveal the name of the Main Event champion, which could only be one of the last 24 finalists. After two days of play, they had formed from the original 562 entries, and in full view of the spectators, they set off on their final journey yesterday.

With a sure €1,760 payout at 14:00, the players kicked off the final day, which was conducted at a fairly brisk pace. Of course, you were able to follow the whole journey via both the Live Stream and our Live Blog, where you can find a recap of the highlights. After just four hours of play, the final table was formed, with the chipleader of the opening final day, Turkey's O.G. Pageka, as chipleader.

From bottom to top

The final stage brought almost 5 hours of poker, but it didn't start off the best from the point of view of the home players - first Petr Filip had a nasty run in with a second nut flush to nut flush (€4,420), and right behind him Michal Mrakeš (€5,525) also went to the cash desk.

The Slovak representative Matej Maceják, in particular, showed great poker, although he started the final table from the penultimate place, but despite this, he managed to climb higher and higher. He gradually fought his way through the bursting of the ticket bubble until the final heads-up, in which he faced the unstoppable O.G. Pagek.

The big twist in the heads-up

A comfortable deep structure allowed players to go into heads-up play with huge stacks, and even though the Turk had an almost 3:1 advantage, it was still wide open thanks to 139bb and 47bb stacks. For over an hour, the duel was marked by Macejak's responsible play, which gradually brought him chips until the flop Pageka left all-in with a combination of , which Macejak with he gladly paid up. The board didn't help and a double-up for the Slovak player evened the scales.

The Slovakian player completed the showdown with the last hand, in which the traditional flip awaited the player. O.G.Pageka spun for tournament life with a combination of , against which Maceják found a pair . Board didn't bring any help to the Turkish player, and thus the final decision was made that the fifth ever Spadepoker Tour champion is the Slovak player Matej Maceják, for which he receives a reward of €47,000 and a ticket to the WSOPE European Championship worth!

This is a once in a lifetime win for the Slovak player, as he revealed in an interview shortly after his win. That it was no coincidence is confirmed by his great form - just a week ago, he finished third in the €250 Tana delle Tigri event at the Banco Casino in Bratislava for €20,000 after the deal!
