Espen Jorstad is the WSOP 2022 Main Event champion

Not even two hours and less than 30 hands were enough for the Norwegian player Espen Jorstad to finish what he started in style. The unstoppable Norwegian didn't find a winner in the ME WSOP and won the first triumph for his country!

Well, it's decided! Nine grueling days of this year's Main Event, the second-largest in history thanks to 8,663 players, did their job, whittling the huge field down to just one name. That name is Espen Jorstad, the first Norwegian champion of the WSOP Main Event, who took home the most valuable poker title and $10,000,000 with it today.

The last day of this marathon saw the participation of the best three players who represented three countries and three different continents at the same time. After the previous day, Norwegian Espen Jorstad, who started the finals with a massive chip lead, was considered the favorite by many. On the other side, there was with 25bb Michael Duek. He couldn't improve his starting position after hitting the nut straight under Attenborough's hand and had to definitely settle for third place and a prize of 4 million dollars.

From that moment, a relatively balanced heads-up started, which could easily last for 10 hours. In the end, everything was decided two hours later by a limped flop in the composition of 422, on which Attenborough check-raised from 4m to 14m, to which Jorstad immediately responded with a 32m rocket. Attenborough just called and the players looked at the turn 8 together. Here Attenborough checked and then after a minute and a half called his opponent's 62m bet, which swelled the pot to 200m.

The last card was the river Q, on which Jorstad fired the last bullet for an effective 131m, followed by a long tank. "This is going to be bad guys," the Aussie turned to his rail. “You may be wondering why I'm tanking so long, but I really want to call.” Jorstad, on the other hand, was completely frozen and showed no emotion. “Good game, I really want to call a lot even though I have a weak hand. Sometimes I don't know what to do, sorry guys...” Attenborough ended his 8-minute tank and with the words “Fuck-it” he finally called withJ4 .

Jorstad turned a Q2 hand and the celebrations were in full swing. "I had a really good run and I think I could have won. It's a shame about the huge mistake at the end, but I'm still very proud of myself", said runner-up Attenborough in an interview. And what about the new champion? "That tank seemed like an eternity. Fortunately, I meditate, so I just focused on my breath and stayed calm."

Right after the win, Jorstad called his mom, who is his biggest fan. “She was crying a lot and couldn't even talk, it was beautiful and it was emotional. I'm glad it turned out this way, especially after the difficult heads-up with such a good opponent. I was lucky that I was just dealt better cards." And what will be the next steps of the new world champion? "My goal has always been to become a part of the High Roller scene and play tournaments with buy-ins of $25k and above. I finally have the bankroll to do it and I hope to show that I'm good enough to play them."
