Did Will Kassouf "rob" players at Irish Open 2023?

The historically most successful Irish Open 2023 is overshadowed by the scandal at the very end of the tournament. It took place on the Pot-Limit Omaha cash game table, the key figure of which was the British grinder Will Kassouf.

On Tuesday, April 11, the most successful Irish Open in history ended in Dublin, Ireland at the Royal Dublin Society, whose Main Event produced a record breaking 2,491 entries and the prize pool stopped at €2,428,475. This series is no longer talked about only in positive terms, which we reported in the last article, but a scandal from behind the cash game tables saw the light of day.

The main "hero" became the British poker professional Will Kassouf, also known from the WSOP 2016 as "Nine high like a boss". He allegedly disappeared from the room along with his cash chips after losing a 3-way all-in at the Pot-Limit Omaha cash game table.

The information was brought by a player named Leo Worthington-Leese using his Instagram. Recreational player and one of the players involved in the 3-way pot - Keith Littlewoos - confirmed this information:"After the dealer started recalculating our stacks and making the main and side pot, Kasouff's stack disappeared and so did Kassouf."

Kassouf strongly denied the allegations, saying in a statement: "I did not take any chips from the table, nor did I leave the room... I did absolutely nothing wrong and the allegations are completely false."

He went on to add that if there was a mistake, it must have been that the dealer split the pots wrong, or the player miscalculated his stack and added Kassouf's chips to his stack, or one of the players (unintentionally) took them out of the pot when won the game. He also claims that he did not go anywhere, and that he was there talking to his friend Nikolay Ponomarev, who confirmed his statement.

How it really happened is unknown, but it is not the first time that Kassouf has been involved in a scandal. In 2018, he lost his sponsorship deal with Grosvenor Poker after he was caught taking $100 worth of chips from a friend's roulette stack, to which he later apologized for his foolish behavior. Kassouf is already a very unpopular figure in the poker world and everyone has to make up their own opinion about him.
