Bin Weng and Kristen Foxen are GPI players of the year

The old year is over, and so are the final rankings for Player of the Year! The race for the top spot was close right to the end, and the top two were Bin Weng and Kristen Foxen.

Third title for Kristen

The women's category was still led by 2022 champion Cherish Andrews as recently as about mid-December. Nadya Magnus, who won the award in 2021, and 2019/20 player of the year Kristen Foxen were breathing down her neck. Andrews did not defend her title from last year, and was narrowly edged out in points by both players towards the end. The Player of the Year award can thus be boasted by Kristen Foxen, who was separated from second-placed Magnus by a whopping 30 points.

The former Ladies' Player of the Year champion had a great final run at the end of the year. Her success in the WPT World Championship shot her to the top, where Kristen finished 33rd in the Main Event and took home $132,000 in addition to 345.07 GPI points.

Final Women's GPI Rankings:

Weng retained the lead in the overall rankings

Bin Weng secured his lead in the overall rankings back in May, when he managed to reach three WPT final tables. By the end of the year, however, the Player of the Year (POY) title was far from guaranteed. In mid-December, he led second-place Jose "Nacho" Ignacio Barber by just 429.05 points. But in the end, Weng brought his lifetime season to a close and won two straight Player of the Year titles - GPI PoY and Card Player PoY.

Weng started the year by winning "The Return," which was the first tournament hosted by the Borgata after reopening its poker room following the Covid pandemic. In May, Weng was successful in WPT tournaments (Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown and WPT Choctaw), winning one and finishing fourth in the other. Weng capped off a great year in 2023 by winning the WPT EveryOne for OneDrop tournament and winning the $25k High Roller during the WPT World Championship, which also netted him $958,279.
