Ben "Spraggy" Spragg wins UKIPT Brighton Main Event
The PokerStars UKIPT Brighton Main Event, which took place at the Rendezvous Casino, has reached its conclusion. The tournament recorded total of 352 entries across three starting flights, and collected a prize pool of £337,920. Of those, 54 players made it through to Day 2 to lock up the £1,640 min-cash. Six players returned to the final table for Day 3.
Those six, who made it to the final table were led by Dominik Nitsche who is fifth on Germany’s all-time money list with over $20 million in live tournament cashes. Thanks to his aggresive game, he was able to make it to the final heads-up against Spragg, who had a significant chip lead over him but Nitsche doubled up with a straight to bring it even. Spragg was then able to call Nitsche's river bluff, leaving Nitsche with just a single 5,000 chip left. He won the event the very next hand and took home the trophy and a reward of £69,120. Nitsche took £42,150 for second place.
"There’s something to be said for winning titles in the live environment, where you have friends with you and onlookers watching, and the whole event. The first thing I was able to play was a UKIPT, so for this to be my first major tournament win, it’s really nice to come full circle. I’ve had so many near misses I was determined to put my best foot forward today. I no longer feel like an online guy who plays a bit of live. I’m just a poker pro." Said emotional Spraggy right after his win.
